📊 Project 1: Business Analysis - Trash Bag Category Performance (Amazon US)

👋 Welcome

This repository showcases end-to-end, real-world project demonstrating my ability to:

  • Translate business needs into clear requirements
  • Analyze data using Excel
  • Communicate insights to stakeholders

🎯 Objective

The primary goal of this project was to bridge the gap between raw ecommerce data and actionable business strategy. Key focus areas include:

  • Category Retail Sales Analysis: Providing top-line comparison of category sales evolution.
  • Market Share Growth by Brand:  Analyzing results of top 3 gaining and declining brands.
  • Sales by Gallon Size: Showing top leading trash bag sizes in the category.
  • Pricing Analysis: Analyzing average selling price and retail price by Brand.
  • Stakeholder Alignment: Translating data into business-friendly insights.

Attached Excel file with data contains weekly retail sales and pricing data for every trash bag sold on Amazon US (by SKU, by brand, etc.) over the past ~23 months. Note: Dataset used for the project has been provided by Stackline. Dataset is anonymized, over five years old, and does not reflect current client data.

🛠️ Tools

Data Analysis: Excel (Pivot)

🚀 Key Takeaways

  • Insight 1:  Weekly sales performance has shifted upward by roughly 54% compared to last year.
  • Insight 2: Prime Day is the annual high point - Current Year’s Prime Day peak  exceeded the previous year’s performance during the same period, suggesting more effective promotions or higher customer traffic.
  • Insight 3: Market share remains highly concentrated at the top, with Happy, Simple, and Thrifty controlling a combined 77.2% of the total market. While Thrifty emerged as the top gainer (+3.7% share increase), Happy faced the most significant decline
  • Insight 4: Average selling price fell 4.2% year-over-year and in H1 2017 struggled to reach 2016 levels. Since week 40, prices started recovering and finally outperform previous year levels.
  • Deliverable: Presentation that tracks "Real-time Sales vs. Targets" to assist daily decision-making.
