Booting LeafSDTools without working SD card (test mode pin, QY7XXX)

DFJ edited this page Nov 29, 2025 · 1 revision

Prepare LeafSDTools and use test mode pin

You can boot into LeafSDTools with missing, broken or invalid MAP SD Card by connecting TEST MODE B0 (K23) and forcing the unit into upgrade mode.

Prepare LeafSDTools SD card normally (1.1 of this wiki guide) and insert it to the map slot B. Remove any SD cards in map slot B if present. At this point it won't work, no point to try powering on navi.

K23 is a blank spot in the wiring harness. We need to prepare a small wire to make contact with the pin.

Making the wire

Any wire, preferably thin signal cable can be used as a wire. Strip roughly 17 mm of the wire and twist it.

Insert the wire to the connector (aim the bare wire to the top, a tiny hole is located on the top portion.) and push it until you see the wire like this:

You can try holding the wire in place or you could wrap the wire with electrical tape for tight fitment.

Connecting the wire and booting

The wire needs to be connected to ground, simplest way is to just touch the chassis of navi unit. Then proceed to turn on the navi. If successful, LeafSDTools will boot and you can release the cable.

From here you can lock your new replacement/clone SD, re-lock original MAP SD, etc. Some stock SD images are available here.
