Urban Ride

A modern, scalable ride-sharing platform built with a microservices architecture.

🚀 Overview

Urban Ride is a comprehensive ride-hailing solution that connects riders with drivers in real-time. The platform is built using a microservices architecture to ensure scalability, maintainability, and high availability.

🏗️ Architecture

This project follows a microservices architecture with the following structure:

urban-ride/
├── apps/
│ ├── services/ # Backend microservices
│ │ ├── auth/ # Authentication & Authorization service
│ │ ├── location/ # Real-time location tracking service
│ │ ├── payment-rating/# Payment processing & rating system
│ │ └── trip-manager/ # Trip management & matching service
│ └── web/ # Web application (frontend)

Services

Service Description
Auth Handles user authentication, authorization, and session management
Location Manages real-time location tracking, geofencing, and nearby driver discovery
Payment-Rating Processes payments, handles billing, and manages rider/driver ratings
Trip-Manager Manages trip lifecycle, driver-rider matching, and trip state management

🛠️ Tech Stack

Note: Specific technologies will be configured as the project develops. Expected stack includes:

  • Backend: Node.js/Python microservices
  • Frontend: React/Next.js web application
  • Database: PostgreSQL/MongoDB (per service)
  • Message Queue: RabbitMQ/Kafka for inter-service communication
  • API Gateway: Centralized API gateway for request routing
  • Container: Docker & Kubernetes for orchestration

📋 Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure you have the following installed:

  • Node.js (v18 or higher)
  • npm or yarn package manager
  • Git for version control
  • Docker (optional, for containerized development)

🚦 Getting Started

1. Clone the Repository

git clone https://github.com/your-org/urban-ride.git
cd urban-ride

2. Install Dependencies

Each service has its own dependencies. Navigate to the specific service directory:

# Example for auth service
cd apps/services/auth
npm install

# Repeat for other services

3. Environment Configuration

Create a .env file in each service directory with the required environment variables. Refer to .env.example files in each service for guidance.

4. Run Services

# Development mode
npm run dev

# Production mode
npm start

🔧 Development

Running Tests

# Run tests in a specific service
cd apps/services/<service-name>
npm test

# Run all tests
npm run test:all

Code Style

We use ESLint and Prettier to maintain code quality:

# Lint code
npm run lint

# Format code
npm run format

📦 Deployment

Deployment is managed through CI/CD pipelines. Each service can be deployed independently.

Docker

# Build Docker image
docker build -t urban-ride/<service-name> .

# Run container
docker run -p 3000:3000 urban-ride/<service-name>
