Description

Implement full global localization support for the application.

The goal is to make the product accessible worldwide by adding a scalable internationalization system that supports a large number of languages, regional variants, and writing directions.

This should not be limited to a small set of translations. The system must be designed for broad international coverage, including major world languages as well as underserved and region-specific languages such as Amharic, Farsi, Kurdish, Bengali, Swahili, Urdu, Armenian, Georgian, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Malay, Hebrew, and others.

Objectives

  • Make the UI translatable across the entire application
  • Support broad global language coverage
  • Allow easy addition of new languages without refactoring
  • Support both LTR and RTL languages
  • Prepare the app for region-specific formatting and localization rules

Requirements

  • Extract all user-facing strings from the codebase
  • Implement a proper i18n localization framework
  • Store translations in structured locale files
  • Add dynamic language switching in the UI
  • Detect user locale automatically where possible
  • Add fallback logic when translations are missing
  • Support regional variants such as en-US, en-GB, pt-BR, fa-IR, etc.
  • Ensure translation loading is scalable for many locales
  • Make sure UI components handle longer translated strings correctly
  • Support RTL rendering for languages such as Arabic, Farsi, Hebrew, and Urdu
  • Prepare pluralization, date/time, number, and currency formatting by locale

Suggested language coverage

The architecture should be ready for broad support, including but not limited to:

  • English
  • Russian
  • Ukrainian
  • Spanish
  • Portuguese
  • French
  • German
  • Italian
  • Dutch
  • Polish
  • Turkish
  • Arabic
  • Farsi
  • Hebrew
  • Urdu
  • Kurdish
  • Amharic
  • Swahili
  • Hindi
  • Bengali
  • Tamil
  • Telugu
  • Marathi
  • Punjabi
  • Gujarati
  • Chinese
  • Japanese
  • Korean
  • Thai
  • Vietnamese
  • Indonesian
  • Malay
  • Filipino
  • Armenian
  • Georgian

Additional languages should be easy to add later without changing the system design.

Tasks

  • Audit all existing hardcoded UI strings
  • Define translation key naming conventions
  • Move strings into locale dictionaries
  • Add locale resolution and fallback strategy
  • Add language selector in settings or onboarding
  • Add support for RTL layout switching
  • Test typography and layout resilience across languages
  • Validate formatting for dates, numbers, and plural forms
  • Document the workflow for adding new languages
  • Prepare the translation pipeline for future expansion

Expected result

The application should be ready for worldwide use, with a robust localization architecture that supports many languages, regional variants, and future expansion without major rewrites.
