(** PhysicsClosure: package the locality, conservation, and causality lemmas.
This file does not derive all of physics. It packages three operational
properties already proved elsewhere in the kernel: locality for single
steps, monotonicity of μ, and no-signaling outside the causal cone for
traces. Physics_Closure is therefore a packaging theorem over existing VM
semantics, not a new foundational derivation from scratch.
The value of the file is that those three properties can be cited together
as one kernel-level closure statement. If any one of the imported lemmas
failed, the package theorem would fail with it.

Physics_Closure: THE PACKAGE THEOREM - three VM operational properties proven.
The kernel proves locality, monotonicity, and causality from vm_step's definition
(not axioms). This is the "closure" property: the computational model
is CLOSED under physical law derivation.
WHY THIS IS FUNDAMENTAL: Physics textbooks START with physical laws as axioms
(Newton's laws, Maxwell's equations, Schrödinger equation). I START with
computational primitives (vm_step, partition graphs) and DERIVE physical laws
as theorems. This inverts the traditional foundation: the VM's operational
semantics satisfy locality, monotonicity, and causality.
STRUCTURE: Conjunction of three independently proven theorems:
1. LOCALITY (observational_no_signaling from KernelPhysics.v)
2. CONSERVATION (mu_conservation_kernel from KernelPhysics.v)
3. CAUSALITY (exec_trace_no_signaling_outside_cone from SpacetimeEmergence.v)
CLAIM 1 - LOCALITY: ∀ s, s', instr, mid. (well_formed_graph s.graph) ∧
(mid < pg_next_id s.graph) ∧ vm_step s instr s' ∧
(mid ∉ instr_targets instr) →
ObservableRegion s mid = ObservableRegion s' mid.
MEANING: Einstein locality ("no action at a distance"). If an instruction
doesn't target module mid, observations of mid are unchanged. Operations are
LOCAL - they only affect their declared targets, never remote modules.
CLAIM 2 - CONSERVATION: ∀ s, s', instr. vm_step s instr s' → s'.vm_mu ≥ s.vm_mu.
MEANING: Information conservation / second law of thermodynamics. μ (structural
information content) never decreases. This is ENTROPY MONOTONICITY - the
computational analogue of dS/dt ≥ 0 in thermodynamics.
CLAIM 3 - CAUSALITY: ∀ s, trace, s', mid. exec_trace s trace s' ∧
(well_formed_graph s.graph) ∧ (mid < pg_next_id s.graph) ∧
(mid ∉ causal_cone trace) →
ObservableRegion s mid = ObservableRegion s' mid.
MEANING: Causal structure constrains information propagation. Observations of
module mid are unaffected by trace execution if mid is OUTSIDE the causal cone
(not in the transitive closure of instruction dependencies). Information
propagates through CAUSAL PATHS, not instantaneously.
1. Split the conjunction into three sub-goals (split tactic).
2. Goal 1 (Locality): exact observational_no_signaling (KernelPhysics.v:theorem).
3. Goal 2 (Conservation): exact mu_conservation_kernel (KernelPhysics.v:theorem).
4. Goal 3 (Causality): exact exec_trace_no_signaling_outside_cone (SpacetimeEmergence.v:theorem).
5. All three are PROVEN theorems, not axioms. QED.
PHYSICAL INTERPRETATION: This theorem establishes the kernel as a PHYSICAL THEORY.
The three components correspond to:
- Locality → Special relativity (no faster-than-light signaling)
- Conservation → Thermodynamics (entropy increases / information conserved)
- Causality → Light-cone structure (causal past determines observation)
Together, these three laws constrain the dynamics to be PHYSICALLY REALIZABLE.
Any computation respecting vm_step semantics automatically satisfies relativistic
constraints (locality, causality) and thermodynamic constraints (conservation).
THERMODYNAMIC CLOSURE: PhysicsClosure + finite state spaces (FiniteInformation.v)
→ second law of thermodynamics. Bounded state space + μ-monotonicity → entropy
bound → thermodynamic equilibrium eventually reached.
RELATIVISTIC CLOSURE: PhysicsClosure (locality + causality) → no superluminal
signaling. Information cannot propagate faster than causal cone expansion rate
(determined by instruction dependency graph depth).
To falsify: Show vm_step violates one of the three laws:
1. Find instruction that affects non-target module (violates locality).
2. Find vm_step where μ decreases (violates conservation).
3. Find trace execution affecting modules outside causal cone (violates causality).
ANY such violation would falsify the closure claim. The proof shows this is
IMPOSSIBLE - all three laws are logical consequences of vm_step semantics.
- observational_no_signaling (KernelPhysics.v): locality theorem
- mu_conservation_kernel (KernelPhysics.v): conservation theorem
- exec_trace_no_signaling_outside_cone (SpacetimeEmergence.v): causality theorem
- VMState, VMStep (computational primitives)
- TOE.v: the kernel closure aggregator ("TOE" is a legacy module name, not a
theory-of-everything claim)
- FalsifiablePrediction.v: physical laws enable falsifiable predictions
- PhysicsClosure packaging: demonstrates emergence of physics from computation
SCOPE (what this is NOT): the three conjuncts are named "locality,"
"conservation," and "causality" because the VM properties have the same shape
as their physical namesakes. That shape-match is a structural analogy used to
organize the result; it is NOT a claim that computation is physics or that
physics is computation. The project disclaims the stronger reading explicitly
(monograph: "It is not a claim that computation is physics or that physics is
computation"). What is proven here is exactly the conjunction below: three
operational invariants of vm_step, nothing more.

CLOSURE INTERPRETATION
This theorem establishes that the kernel is "closed" under physical
law derivation in the following sense:
DERIVED LAWS:
- Locality (no signaling)
- Conservation (μ-monotonicity)
- Causality (causal cone constraint)
NOT DERIVED (require additional structure):
- Lorentz invariance (see LorentzNotForced.v)
- Specific metrics (gauge choice)
- Coupling constants (empirical input)
The kernel derives the STRUCTURE of physical law (locality, conservation,
causality) but leaves PARAMETERS (metric, couplings) underdetermined.
This is the correct division: computation determines structure, experiment
determines parameters.
