Got this working on a 4790K like more than a decade after I first set it up. So thank you very much. I did leave HEVC software encoding on though. |

I finally got hardware-accelerated transcoding working on my older Intel HD 4600 (i7-4770HQ) after some trial and error—thanks to DeepSeek Chat for guiding me through it!

A super thanks to DeepSeek Chat for debugging the FFmpeg logs and suggesting the right config.
If you’re on older Intel GPUs, skip AV1/HEVC and stick to H.264!
Honestly I fed deepseek chat a huge amount of logs I was too lazy to read and it just crushed everything and pointed me in the right direction.
Before:
100% CPU throttling = Daughter crying = video not playing
After:
130 fps with h264_vaapi 🎉
CPU cruising like a cruise ship for retired processors
