Do you plan to update this data during the upcoming EPL season? also, what is your data source for the match data?

Yeah, with vaastav retiring from the FPL data game, I figured someone had to keep going

Once FPL updates their API for the new season, I'll fire up the automation again. It'll take me a few days to get everything synced up properly (player names, new signings, etc).

The data all comes from my SQL database that I've built up over time. I've written a bunch of scripts that pull everything together from different sources:

The detailed match stats are collected from various free sources inc the FPL API
Elo ratings come from ClubElo.com (great for tracking team strength over time)
All the player and team info is pulled straight from the official FPL API

Quick question for you: How do you find the current data structure? I've tried to organize it in a way that makes sense (separate tables for matches, players, player match stats, etc.), but I'm always open to feedback.

I really like the structure and it was exactly what I was looking for in terms of match stats by player. I am building my own fantasy soccer game (I don't like the way the current FPL works) so that dataset is very easy for me to run calcs off of.

Not sure I have much in terms of suggestions at the moment but Im wondering how you are handling the new upcoming season. Are you planning to make a new file 'data/2025-2026' or append the new seasons data to current datasets. For example, Rashford moved from Man U to Aston Villa during the January window but I only see a record for him under Aston Villa. Same kind of question for year over year team data considering promotion and relegation.

Hello, amazing work on this — I’m really impressed!

I’ve been working on a project using last season’s stats for defensive contributions, but I ran into an issue: FPL doesn’t use tackles won (as expected) for defensive contributions, but instead uses all tackles, which doesn’t make much sense — but fine.

Do you plan on adding all tackles (at least for the new season)?

I’d like to think FPL will update their API to reflect the new bonus point rules for defensive actions but honestly, I wouldn’t be too surprised if they don’t.

In the data structure I’ve built:

PlayerMatchStats (the per-match dataset) includes tackles_won and tackles_won_percent.

PlayerStats (which reflects FPL’s aggregated data) includes the total number of tackles directly.

You can also calculate total tackles from the match data with:

total_tackles = tackles_won / (tackles_won_percent / 100)

For the latest gameweeks I see that the playermatchstats with data such as sprinting distance does not seem to be updated.

Yeah, this one’s been tricky. Someone from FotMob reached out and asked me to stop using their site for this project. That includes sprint distance, speed, and similar metrics. I’m trying to find an alternative solution, but for now, unless we’ve got $$$ for an Opta subscription, we’re probably out of luck.
