Thank you for MOS. I don't have any issues at present, I just wanted to express my gratitude both for your efforts and for sharing MOS with the World. So that even dimwits like me can repurpose an old PC as a powerful and practical home NAS.

Also, thank you for finding the sweet spot between the baffling complexities of TrueNAS and the toy-like (and slightly creepy) simplicity of Zima OS.

And it even plays a little tune to let you know it's ready. You don't get that with Synology, QNAP etc.

Actually, while this is still open, there is something I'd like to suggest. Though it's more of a concept than anything specific.

If you've used Kodi you might be familiar with the interface option where you can choose to filter display settings as Basic, Standard, Advanced or Expert. As part of the long-term development of MOS might it be worth considering something similar?

So that those with limited knowledge - who might find a myriad of options off-putting - can configure MOS via a few basic / streamlined walk-through settings, while those with deep knowledge and experience can opt to display and have access to all the settings and configurations.

hey @Thomas-O thanks a lot for your positive feedback, we are really happy to hear that, and this still motivates us to make mos better and better :)

your thougts about making an easy mode sounds like a great idea for a later scenario.. but at the moment we are working hard to build our first stable ;)

i think in the future we will take a look into this idea and we will try to make some parts of mos more simple :)

Yes, that sort of thing. Hand holding for those taking their first steps; a free rein for those who know what they're doing.

There are multiple ways of doing that but I have to be honest, a shutdown timer is not a "standard" thing to have, at least not on a Server, but hey, maybe someone can do something like that as a Plugin. :)

I have two MOS NAS running on old PCs.

One with a bunch of SSD hosting audiobooks, documents, images and music. I am happy to leave this on all day.

The other NAS has 4 HDD and a jellyfin video server. As this is only needed between 7-11pm I prefer to WOL and then put it to sleep everynight at 23.15 with a (/sbin/shutdown -h now) cronjob command. To reduce the electricity bill and save the planet etc. Does this make sense?

Yep and that's the difference and I don't like to compare MOS to other NAS Systems, meaning that if they do it we don't have to do it like that.

However I do get your point. I'll think about that again.

Reason behind this is because another user will most certainly ask if we can implement sleep and that is a thing that I don't want to have in MOS since I can't guarantee that it works on every system, because of the wide variety of systems out there that MOS maybe has to support.
Such a thing would be maybe be best as a Plugin, TLDR; I keep it on my radar.

I'll take this opportunity to also thank and congratulate you guys on the project.

I've been looking for something based on MergeFS for a long time. It's the simplest way to fully utilize disks, and no NAS offers this approach. MOS came to solve the complexity of configuring a server in pure Linux.
