It's actually a pretty common sanity reference in engineering despite it's comedic nature, similar to a human model you can drop into CAD. Some CAD plugins even have a banana reference model one can drop-in.

This idea isn't completely insane. For what it is worth, bananas have just enough naturally radioactive potassium that they are also a unit of measure for radiation dose. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banana_equivalent_dose
