cordova-android@15 webview truncated at bottom

Problem

What is expected to happen?

Updating to cordova-android@15 should render the same size webview as it did in 14. If I revert to 14 it works as expected.

What does actually happen?

After updating an app to cordova-android@15 the bottom of the webview is truncated and not filling the device screen. As per the release blog I have removed cordova-plugin-splashscreen, cordova-plugin-statusbar - I was also using and have removed cordova-plugin-fullscreen and cordova-plugin-android-edge-to-edge. Removed and re added cordova-android@15. The app boots with full screen splashscreen then opens up with the bottom of the webview truncated.

If I look at the webviews in the chrome://inspect/#devices I can see the truncation:

If I turn on preference name="Fullscreen" value="true" the app renders corrently in full screen view.

On my real test device if I put the app into desktop workspaces the size of the app is correct and when I select Remove from desktop workspace the app temporarly goes to the right size and then reduces back to the truncated size.

@GitToTheHub yeah sorry forgot to add that one - The sims top two on inpsect output are Android 15 and the real device is Android 16. I just booted another sim on Android13 and here is the screenshot from the first screen of the app:-

Within chrome inspect on this one I can see the shorteneing at the top for the statusbar and also the truncation at the bottom. edge-to-edge is disabled for all:

I've also noticed inconsistencies when the keyboard is open. Elements that should move up with it are overlapping and have weird spacing. @GitToTheHub Do you have an ETA for this fix? I think this issue might be affecting other apps too.

Hi, Edge-to-Edge changes for Android SDK 35+ (Android 15+) was introduced by @erisu and PR #1817. This project is volunteer driven and relies on the free time of the volunteers. There is no ETA for a fix. But we welcome any help and PRs.

I have been thinking about your report regarding a keyboard fix I applied, and I noticed that in this version of Cordova, from my perspective, this is not a bug. Android 16 is forcing apps to use edge-to-edge. To maintain app compatibility, a view was created in the Android Activity that behaves like the legacy status bars, in order to ensure backward compatibility so that apps aren't forced to go edge-to-edge.

When passing the property <preference name="AndroidEdgeToEdge" value="false" /> in config.xml, it is normal for the Webview to be constrained, because it will take into account the status bars created in the Activity that guarantee backward compatibility.

If enabled, <preference name="AndroidEdgeToEdge" value="true" />, this clipping ceases to exist because the margins that account for the system bars are no longer applied to the Webview, thereby removing the "truncation".

I believe you can test my fix and see if it improves the experience in your app: #1924

My understanding is that this is the expected behavior for the new cordova-android@15 release.

@gabriel2mm created an PR which should fix scrolling issues produced by showing/hiding the soft-keyboard which is now in the master of cordova-android. Please try a clean hello world app with the latest cordova-android master. This should work now.
