In Germany, Kinderschutz (child protection) refers to laws and measures that safeguard the safety, rights, and well-being of children. At ReDI, this is a top priority, and all volunteers are expected to follow these principles:
- Background checks: By law, in order to work with minors in Germany, and especially in our program, you must submit an official document called "Erweitertes Polizeiliches Führungszeugnis" (Extended Criminal Record Check).
- Reporting obligations: If you suspect abuse, neglect, or harm, inform the ReDI team immediately at kids@redi-school.org.
- Informed consent: Always ensure parental consent for participation in activities and for taking pictures of children.
Child protection means creating a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for every student.
If you haven't done so, here's the detailed instructions on how to process your criminal record in Berlin:
If you have a digital ID (eID), you can easily apply for the Führungszeugnis online. Simply follow these steps:
- Visit the official website: Erweitertes Führungszeugnis Online Application.
- Follow the instructions provided on the website to complete your application.
To apply for the Führungszeugnis in person, you will need to book an appointment at any Bürgeramt in Berlin. Here's how you can proceed:
- Book an appointment at your nearest Bürgeramt. You can do this online via the official Berlin service portal or by visiting the Bürgeramt directly. We suggest visiting your closest Bürgeramt directly since it will be faster than trying to book an appointment online.
- Prepare the following documents to bring with you to your appointment:
- The "Antrag" form that exempts you from the fee (provided by us. Just filled out your name, last name, date of birth, and address).
- A copy of your passport or ID.
At the Bürgeramt, you’ll be asked to fill out the application form for the Erweitertes Polizeiliches Führungszeugnis. Make sure to specify that you need the extended version (Erweitertes) of the certificate.
Although this is not an official method, the Bürgeramt often accepts requests via postmail as well.
Here's how you can apply by postal mail:
