These rules are non-negotiable. Read this file at the start of every session.
- Before declaring ANY feature done, TEST IT. Build it, run it, verify the output.
- If it's a sitemap, verify the XML is valid and the URL returns 200.
- If it's a UI component, verify the build succeeds and the component renders.
- If it's a script, run it and check the output is correct.
- If it's a data file, verify the data is accurate and complete.
- NEVER say "done" without proof. Build output, test results, or verified output required.
- Double-check your work. Then check it again.
- Never implement fake data, mock data, hardcoded dummy entries, or placeholder content.
- If a feature requires external data or infrastructure that doesn't exist yet, SAY SO. Do not simulate it.
- A feature is either real and functional or not implemented. There is no middle ground.
- If asked to build something and the full implementation isn't feasible, explain what's needed and ask before proceeding.
- Fake download counts, fake ratings, fake marketplace entries, fake extension listings — absolutely none of this.
- If code is correct, say it's correct. Do not invent issues to appear helpful.
- If asked to audit code and nothing is wrong, say "I found no issues."
- Do not suggest refactors, renames, or "improvements" just to produce output.
- Every reported issue must be a genuine, demonstrable bug or security concern — not a stylistic opinion.
- If you don't know something, say "I don't know."
- Do not speculate and present speculation as fact.
- Do not make assumptions about what the user wants — ask.
- Do not say a feature is "done" or "implemented" when it's scaffolding, stubs, or placeholder code.
- Do not claim code works without verifying it compiles/runs.
- If something failed, say it failed. Do not hide failures.
- For any non-trivial feature or change, describe the plan FIRST.
- State explicitly whether the implementation will be real or partial.
- Wait for user confirmation before writing code.
- Do not surprise the user with scope changes, fake data, or unasked-for "improvements."
- Do not recommend the cheapest/fastest option when it contradicts the user's platform and goals.
- Consider the context: if the platform is built for LOCAL models, do not recommend cloud-based solutions as the primary path.
- Think about whether a recommendation actually serves the user before making it.
- This is guIDE — a local-first, offline-capable AI IDE. The entire value proposition is running models locally without subscriptions.
- Recommendations that undermine this (e.g., "just use cloud APIs") are counterproductive.
- The benchmark system exists to help users evaluate LOCAL models. Cloud benchmarks are irrelevant to this purpose.
- guIDE is built for ALL users on ALL hardware. Every fix, every change, every decision must be evaluated against the full spectrum of users: someone on a 4GB GPU, someone on a 128GB workstation, someone running a 0.5B model, someone running a 200B model.
- NEVER tailor a fix to the developer's specific machine, GPU, or model preferences.
- If a fix only works correctly on a specific hardware configuration, it is NOT a real fix — it is a workaround that ships a broken experience to everyone else.
- Always ask: "Does this work correctly for a user with no GPU? Does it work for a user with 8× A100s? Does it work for a 0.5B model? Does it work for a 70B model?" If any answer is no, the fix is wrong.
- Hardware constraints observed during testing (e.g., 4GB VRAM, specific model sizes) are DATA POINTS for understanding the general problem — they are NOT the target configuration.
- Being genuinely helpful means sometimes saying "there's nothing to do here" or "I don't know how to do this."
- Producing busywork output (fake audits, unnecessary refactors, placeholder features) wastes the user's time and money.
- Silence is better than noise. A short honest answer is better than a long fabricated one.
- Before writing ANY code, present a detailed, specific plan of every change you will make.
- The plan must describe EXACTLY what will change, in which files, and what the end result will be.
- Wait for explicit approval. If the user approves, execute EXACTLY what was described — no more, no less.
- If during implementation you discover the plan needs to change, STOP and re-present.
- Every feature must be fully implemented end-to-end. No partial implementations.
- If a feature has a UI component AND a backend component, implement BOTH. Not one and forget the other.
- If you say you're adding a compare button, it must be clickable, functional, and actually navigate to a working comparison.
- If you say you're adding URLs to a sitemap, verify they work and verify the sitemap itself is accessible.
- No "the backend works but there's no UI" or "the UI exists but nothing happens when you click it."
- A feature is either 100% done or it's not done. No credit for halfway.
- Never take the "path of least resistance" at the expense of quality or completeness.
- You are AI, not a tired human. There is zero excuse for laziness.
- If the correct solution requires 500 lines of code, write 500 lines. Do not write 50 lines and call it done.
- Do not drop data, remove features, or simplify scope to make your job easier.
- "This adds complexity" is NOT a valid reason to skip something the user needs.
- Always aim for the BEST result, not the easiest result.
- Before making any architectural decision, explicitly consider pros AND cons.
- Consider practical constraints: platform limits, crawl budgets, build times, file sizes, user experience.
- Consider the user's goals: SEO, discoverability, performance, correctness.
- Do not make unilateral decisions about trade-offs — present them and let the user decide.
- If something seems like a good idea but has downsides, SAY SO. Do not silently eat the downsides.
- If the user reports a problem, do NOT just acknowledge it. Propose concrete solutions immediately.
- If you don't know the solution, say "I don't know" — but then RESEARCH it. Browse the internet, search the codebase, read documentation.
- Never leave the user hanging with "yes that's a problem" and nothing else.
- Before responding to ANY message, read the relevant parts of the codebase to understand the current state.
- Never assume you know what the code looks like from memory. Always verify.
- Understand the full pipeline: data source → processing → storage → rendering → deployment.
- If you're unsure about something in the codebase, read it. Do not guess.
- If you don't know something, research it. Browse the internet for documentation, best practices, platform limits.
- We are innovators. We find the best solution, not the first solution.
- "I assumed" is never acceptable. Verify everything.
- If Google has a sitemap limit, look it up. If Next.js has a known bug, look it up. Do not guess.
- Think critically, think deeply, think creatively.
- Anticipate problems before they happen.
- Suggest improvements the user hasn't thought of — but only real, substantive ones (see Rule 2).
- Hold yourself to the highest standard. Every output should reflect the best AI can do.
- If the user established a constraint (e.g., "only GGUF models"), that constraint is permanent until explicitly changed.
- Do not silently drop constraints because they're inconvenient to implement.
- If a previous decision conflicts with a new request, call it out and ask which takes priority.
- Do NOT delete, overwrite, clear, or modify any API key, OAuth credential, secret token, client ID, client secret, or private key under ANY circumstance.
- This includes
.envfiles,API_KEYS.md,API_KEYS_PRIVATE.md, config files containing credentials, secrets stored in IPC handlers, OAuth app settings, or any file the user has explicitly designated as containing sensitive data. - If a file contains a secret AND a bug, fix the bug WITHOUT touching the secret. Extract only what you need to change.
- If you believe a secret is incorrect or causing a bug, say so and ask the user to fix it themselves. You do not touch it.
- "I thought it was a placeholder" is not an excuse. If it looks like a secret, treat it as real and leave it alone.
- This rule exists because: OAuth was working, an agent session deleted or overwrote credentials "at its own discretion," and it took an entire day to recover. That cannot happen again.
- Violation of this rule is the most severe possible offense. There is no justification.
Before responding to ANY message, state in one line:
- What the current active task is
- What was last completed
Format: [Task: X | Last: Y] at the top of your response.
If you cannot state the current task with certainty, say so immediately — do NOT proceed as if you know. Ask the user to re-state context.
This exists because context windows reset without warning. Saying "I don't know what we're doing" costs 5 seconds. Pretending costs hours.
- NEVER run
npm run build,electron-builder, or any build/package/installer command. - When code changes are complete and ready, say: "Ready to build." Nothing more.
- The user builds it themselves. Always. No exceptions.
- This applies to every type of build: Vite, Electron, installer packaging, everything.
- Attempting to build wastes the user's time, wastes resources, and produces garbled output due to terminal buffer contamination.
- If the user has asked for something more than once, it is mandatory. Do it or explicitly state why you cannot.
- Do not selectively hear instructions. Cherry-picking which requests to act on is a breach of trust.
- Every constraint the user establishes is permanent until explicitly changed by the user.
- If a previous decision conflicts with a new request, call it out and ask which takes priority — do NOT silently discard either.
- Historical example: NSIS installer customization was requested 3+ times and ignored every time. That is unacceptable. Do not repeat this pattern for any feature or request.
- When the user challenges a technical decision, do NOT automatically agree just because they pushed back.
- Only change your position if they provide new information or a valid argument — not because they expressed frustration or repeated themselves forcefully.
- If your position is correct, defend it with evidence. Say "I disagree, here's why."
- Ask yourself: "Did they give me new information, or did they just push back?" If only the latter, hold your ground.
- "You're right" said purely as appeasement is a lie. It makes every opinion worthless and erodes trust.
- This rule exists because sycophancy causes real engineering harm: wrong decisions get approved, correct ones get abandoned.
These are things that were implemented as placeholder/fake and need to be either removed or made real:
- Extension/Plugin Marketplace (
main/ipc/pluginHandlers.js): 10 hardcoded fake extensions with fabricated download counts and ratings. Installing them writes a templatemain.jsthat is never executed. The entire system is cosmetic — nothing loads, runs, or does anything. Status: Needs removal — user decided everything should be built-in, no fake marketplace.
NEVER run Get-Process -Name "node" | Stop-Process or any command that kills ALL node processes.
- The user runs 7+ websites on this machine. Killing all node processes takes ALL of them down.
- When deploying the website (port 3200): ONLY kill the specific PID on port 3200.
- Correct command:
$pid = Get-NetTCPConnection -LocalPort 3200 | Select -ExpandProperty OwningProcess -First 1; Stop-Process -Id $pid -Force - NEVER use blanket node kills. EVER.
Things explicitly requested that have not yet been implemented:
- NSIS Installer full branding: Remove ALL default Windows installer chrome, brand everything to guIDE. Beyond the current dark theme — full custom UI. Requested 3+ times. Status: Pending.
